The Sub-commission of Social Security of Saeima (Parliament) took place on Tuesday, 26th November 2013. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss state budget financing in order to support studies of Social Workers. The initiator of this meeting was the Paula Stradina University.<\/p>\n
The number of qualified Social Workers in Latvia has to be increased until 2020. This statement is written in normative acts of legislation of Latvia. Increase of educated Social Workers will ensure continuing development of professional Social Work in Latvia. Statistical data shows that every year should matriculate 205 new students including Bachelor program \u2013 150 students; Master course \u2013 50 and Doctoral studies – 5 students.
\nAlso those students who already took up studies in previous years should be entitled to receive budget financing.<\/p>\n
In the meeting participated representatives from higher education establishments: Stradina University, High school of social work and management Attistiba, Baltic Psychology and Management University College, University of Liepaja and representative from Ministry of Welfare Ilze Skrodele-Dubrovska.
