The Board of Collaboration of Social Work specialists at the Ministry of Welfare on September 27, 2017
The Chairman of the board of Social Workers Association (SWA) Linda Ozola participated in the meeting of BCSWS (the Board of Collaboration of Social Work specialists) at the Ministry of Welfare on September 27, 2017.
The Deputy Director of the Methodical Management and Control department Ilze Skrodele Dubrovska, informed participants that Ethical Code issues were discussed during the social worker’ s camp of the Ministry of Welfare. The official summary of lessons learned at this camp will be published in the magazine ‘Social Work in Latvia’.
In turn, Linda Ozola informed about the SWS Summer Camp and the fact that the thesis for Social Workers conference were presented as well as an agreement on reviewing and publication of ethical dilemmas.
Participants if this meeting discussed issues related to the development and application of the Code of Ethics and agreed to establish the structure of it by November this year and then set up a working group to work on improving the content of Code of Ethics.
The Senior Expert, Dace Jansone, form the Ministry of Education, provided information on the latest development in the field of education, which strongly stipulates the need to update and re-approve the Standard of Social Work profession. The issue also seeks to revise the Classification of Professions in general.
Ilze Skrodele Dubrovska and Agnese Jansone informed about the plan to set up and Expert Council of the Industry in order to address the issue of actualization of Profession Standards and other issues related to social work education. SWA participation is required on this council.
Lolita Vilka informed that she has submitted the application to the Council of Science to approve social work as a science creating a section ‘Sociology and Social Work’.
Ilze Kurme informed that the project ‘The development of professional social work in local municipalities’ has been completed and will be presented on October 18, 2017.
All interested are invited for discussion ‘Specifics of rural social work in Latvia’, which will be held on October 18.
