The animation movie for adults “The Stones in my pockets”
The USA magazine of Social Work has published a reference for Signe Baumane’s adult animation movie, which she applied in 2014. The name of this movie is “Stones in my pockets”. The cartoon is a true story, which based on the fantastic stories of five Signe Baumane’s family women, including Signe themselves – their struggle with the trials of life, depression, suicidal ideation and folly. At the same time this story is full of humor and complexity of Latvian history interwoven with personal experience and stories about family secrets, love and marriage.
For the social workers this movie is an important personal and professional resource to help more deeply understand the various human aspects of life and the whole world. As pointed out from the author and supervisor Edison Cooper, this movie would be very useful for social workers to watch, because the cartoon opens up a window of human inner world, who are afflicted with depression, schizophrenia and suicidal ideation. For professionals it would be a great tool for empathy in order to better understand how person feels with such a complex mental problems.
The author notes that all of these problems might open another dimension – the intergenerational context.
The session of the Board of Collaboration of Social Work specialists on the 10th September 2014 Annual conference of Latvian Social Workers Association will take a place on the 13th November 2014
