Latvian Social Workers’ Association meets with the Norwegian Association of Social Educators and Social Workers
On December 4, 2019, Ieva Ozola and Viesturs Kleinbergs from the Latvian Social Workers Association had the opportunity to meet INGE ENGELAND JOHANSEN, one of the regional leaders of the Norwegian Association of Social Educators and Social Workers (FELLESORGANISASJONEN). The Norwegian Association brings together about 10,000 professionals and works in several directions: professional development and trade union functions, working with political parties and employers. During the meeting, the participants discussed current issues in the development of social work and strengthening of social workers as a profession in Latvia and Norway. The contact points of the organizations’ interests were sought and possible future co-operation discussed, which will soon be discussed on the board of the Latvian Social Work Association. Colleagues in Norway expressed their interest in working together to support the Latvian Social Workers Association in recruiting members, participating in conferences, strengthening trade unions and other activities.
