Meeting of the Latvian Social Workers Association with the Ministry of Welfare on changes in the Code of Ethics 05.02.2020.

Since the Latvian Social Workers ‘Association has been designated as responsible for the Code of Ethics for Social Workers (hereinafter – Code of Ethics) and professional ethics issues since 13 January 2020, the representatives of the Latvian Social Workers’ Association M.Moors, A.Menkova and R .Rindža met with colleagues from the Methodical and Control Department of the Ministry of Welfare in order to discuss the next steps in updating the Code of Ethics. The participants agreed that the Association of Social Workers will prepare draft amendments to the Code of Ethics for discussion in the Council by March 11, at the meeting of the Ministry of Welfare Council of Social Work Specialists. The amendments could provisionally:

  1. update the definition of social work profession;
  2. identify concepts that need to be specifically explained;
  3. to define the new structure of the Code of Ethics;
  4. to establish new norms to supplement the existing code.

In turn, amendments to the Code of Ethics could be further considered at the next meeting of the WM Cooperation Council of Social Work Specialists in order to discuss them in a wider range of interested organizations.
