The Latvian Parliament designates the Latvian Social Workers’ Association as being responsible for the Code of Ethics for Social Workers
According to the amendments to the Law on Social Services and Social Assistance (adopted by the Parliament on 19.12.2019, entered into force on 13.01.2020), the Latvian Social Workers’ Association is designated as responsible for the Code of Ethics and updating issues of professional ethics. Since 2003, when the Law on Social Services and Social Assistance came into force, the Latvian Association of Professional Social and Care Workers has been responsible for the Code of Ethics for Social Workers, however, following a mutual agreement between the two professional organizations, a proposal to change the responsible professional organization was submitted to the Parliament Social and Labor Committee. This means that currently the Latvian Social Workers ‘Association is responsible for updating the Social Workers Code of Ethics, discussing issues and issues of professional ethics both within the Social Workers’ Association and in external forums, and for providing social workers with ethical advice and discussion.
