The 2/2023 issue of the periodical “Social work in Latvia” has been published
The periodical journal “Social work in Latvia”, which has been published twice a year since 2017, has become a welcome event for social work specialists, as it provides an insight into the current affairs of the profession both in Latvia and abroad. This year, within the framework of the Ministry of Welfare’s project “Professional and modern development of social work”, it is prepared and published by the Society of Social Workers of Latvia. The opening celebration of the edition took place on Thursday, September 14, at 16.00 at the Ministry of Welfare.
Mārtiņš Moors, the chief editor of the issue, the deputy chairman of the board of the Society of Social Workers of Latvia, proposes ‘promoting social change using a proactive approach and various types of resources’ as the theme of the issue. Issues such as the dominance and digitization of information technology, social work in the community, client-oriented effective solutions, and social work with young people have come to the fore in modern social work. These and other topics are covered in articles and interviews.
According to the creators of the edition, social work can help a person only as far as a person is ready to help himself. A professional social worker will always try to do his work with a clear conscience, giving a person all the possible “tools” for solving problems or connecting him with the necessary social services.
The periodical is available on the website of the Ministry of Welfare: https://www.lm.gov.lv/lv/periodiskais-izdevums-0, as well as on the website of the Society of Social Workers of Latvia in the Articles section (Latvian version of this homepage).
